English Language & Culture

The Department of English Language and Cultures was established in 1979 to offer a level of high-quality teaching and learning in the areas of English linguistics, literature, translation, communications, and digital humanities. It seeks to offer a program that reflects the pedagogical needs and intellectual interests of its students, and bases its courses upon current trends in the fields of language teaching, literary criticism, and cultural studies.   The department also invites many native speakers from the US, Canada, the U.K., and other English speaking countries as lecturers or regular faculty. The faculty is actively involved in conferences, research, and publishing within their fields in order to remain current with student needs and trends. The critical skills and content knowledge of the program are intended to further graduates in management, communication, and innovating careers. Some common fields of employment after graduation from the program include the international business departments of companies, governmental service, financial institutions, diplomatic service, and tourism. Some graduates continue on towards the teaching professions after completing further study in their field of interest, some pursue graduate school, some even study abroad and work internationally.    Additional opportunities include,businesses based on practical English skills, media and trading companies, educational resources projects,entrepreneurial projects in digital development and assets. These are all possible fields for future careers after graduation. The possibilities with a degree in our department are multitude.
